This is a dramatization of supposed real events – the untold story of Adolf Hitler’s escape to Argentina at the end of WW2. Based on interviews with eye witnesses in Argentina and years of detailed research, the film covers events from Hitler’s escape by air from the ruins of Berlin on April 28th, 1945, to Fuerteventura on the Canary Islands and then by U-boat to Argentina where he died tormented, demented and betrayed at a small house, ‘La Clara’ 45 miles from San Carlos De Bariloche in the Argentine Andes, at 3pm on February 13th, 1962.

What makes this such a compelling and endearing film is not the sensational “Hitler escaped!” narrative that’s become a thrice-told tale, but the telling of the story through the accounts of so many ordinary and unremarkable people whose lives randomly collided with two of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. It’s a perspective we don’t get often enough, and in their own humble way their accounts can be much closer to the truth than the carefully airbrushed memoirs of insiders. Whether fact or fiction, the filmmaking was beautifully done.

Whether fact or fiction, this was a very well-made film, very thought-provoking, plus the sets, props, costumes & even the cars were period-appropriate, very well done!

I am Argentinian; I have been many times in Bariloche and the Patagonia. This is a very well know story; with a lot of direct witnesses and even well documented.

No way he fought and died until the end. Not in him, a lot of his understudies left for South America, he definitely did. Love this,as a lot of people said normal people talking about this. No alternative motive to lie. Don’t let this happen again.

Usually, I’m not a fan of the “Documentary-drama” format, but this was well done with the testimonies of various ordinary people, who claim to have witnessed these events. It gives us another perspective to consider. I don’t know if or how it helps make things more understandable or tolerable, considering the atrocities of WW2. Attempting to put the story / myth to rest however, does not necessarily put the minds and hearts of those who suffered and lost loved ones equally at rest, interesting as it may be.

I understand that nine of the most advanced submarines Germany deployed late in WW2 remain unaccounted for according to various in a documentary I saw recently. These were faster, and quieter than others, as well as being quite large. It’s not at all unreasonable that several of these reached Argentina even if many would rather not believe it. And with who aboard?

Always thought it was strange that Martin Bormann body was found in 1998, the same place that was searched in 1945. Also his remains had evidence of earth soil that would not be found in Germany but only in South America. So to my opinion this film tells us the truth.

I have visited Argentina several times, all this here story is well known there, but very very rarely spoken about. Like the war is rarely spoken about in Germany today. A German community suddenly appeared there out of the blue very shortly towards the end and after the war, with plenty of money, being able to buy rural properties outright, drive fine cars and employ servants, being protected by their wealth and the government of Argentina at the time, money talks. Live in their own German speaking communities. And their children and grandchildren and greatgrandchildren are still living their to this day.

The documentary is great, with a lot of testimonies from people who had the opportunity to participate consciously or not at the time. Many did not accept the official version of Hitler’s death, nor the disappearance of many Nazi followers who were very active in World War II, as highlighted in the final part of the film.

His men were furiously loyal to him and I mean not just out of fear. Ig some actually truly loved and admired him and saw him more than their leader.

I took part of this movie as assistant director. Williams first appeared in Argentina to make a movie with journalist Abel Basti, who had dedicated his life so far to find testimonies on Hitler’s whereabouts after WW2. Williams was attracted by the story, but had no clue about it.
The arrangement he made with Basti was clear: he would finance a film and a book, Basti would give his research, his sources and many original material used to write the script. Then they would both appear in the credits. The amount of money spent was unnecessary. Dining every night in the best restaurants and hotels, excessive amount of drinks all the time, the condition of the head of the project was something neither the British or the argentine staff was used to.
Most of the filming was made with no script, no direction, no clear use of the time or the resources. The morale in the crew, mostly in the British team, was low, the unsatisfaction with the way the hole thing was going, with many of them wasting time far from home for a film they were sure was going to suck, as it does now it’s published in Youtube.
In the end, many of the argentine workers did not get paid. Later we knew that Williams was financing the hole show with money from a Ponzi scheme, Terry Freeman’s, also known as the British Bernie Madoff. The hole thing was a money laundering operation, like Martin Bormann’s. Isn’t it ironic?
The lack of respect for Argentinian culture, for the view of Argentinian historians, the view of local people of this film was complete. Williams always talked of the show he was going to put, permanently comparing himself with Mel Brook’s The Producers, with the difference that Brook was no crook. In the end the filming was so bad and the money so badly spent that he had to leave Buenos Aires suddenly and left not only many contracts unpaid, but the agreement with Basti uncompleted.
Williams double crossed him and stole his hole research in a book called Grey Wolf, that he published in the UK and in Argentina. The local publishing company lost a demand made by Basti, and the British company had to defend itself in court after the British Journalist Association said that Williams’s book was a rip-off, full of plagiarism.
The emails shared by many of the film crew with their thoughts on Williams’s work would be funny if they weren’t an embarrassing, sad true. Basti’s work continued, with many books in the local branches of Random House and Grupo Planeta, mostly in Spanish. Williams put a circus in History Channel with what was left of the work he appropriated and retired himself as a pirate.

The books “Gestapo Chief” by Gregory Douglas confirm that Hitler escaped to Spain at the end of the war. U.S. representatives went to Switzerland to interrogate Heinrich Mueller, former Chief of Gestapo in 1946, who had escaped there himself at the end of the war. Hitler knew of his plans and he gave him a briefcase with 50,000 Swiss Francs in it. He told Mueller, “This is the best I can do for you.” Mueller flew a spotter plane to a clearing near the Swiss border and crossed over. During the questioning, they asked Mueller about Hitler. Mueller replied, “You could try Spain.” Then he added, “Perhaps the Russians can go to Barcelona and ask Franco about him. They might end up buried in an orange grove.” Then he told the Americans, “And if you went there you might end up in he next orange grove over.” They brought Mueller from Switzerland to the U.S., gave him a rank of Major in the U.S. Army and he played the piano for Harry Truman. The reason Muller was brought here was because his specialty was Soviet Counter-intelligence. And we all know where the Soviet Union is today.

I still remain open minded regarding the storyline. This is a well researched and professional film which is also, very entertaining and a pleasure to watch. The only negative aspect , and nothing to do with the actual film, is the inordinate number of commercial breaks. YouTube have ‘squeezed’ in, especially in the first 45 min. The number of breaks, in the film, removed a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction from the viewing. Advertising generates income for YouTube , however, let’s not kill off our enjoyment of good quality cinematography and entertainment with too many commercials.

“we were lied to”. that is exactly what most of the history consists of.

Operation paperclip was a huge convert deal for some of the greatest minds of the time. It is quite conceivable that this was part of that deal. He didn’t have much left to bargain with, afterall. And it is well documented that he and Eva had made several trips to Argentina. They even had a placatial suite reserved for them at a luxury 5 star hotel. The white palace. Remember back then, Argentina was under socialist rule…

Love that closing line “We were Lied too”……
This is why you “don’t trust government”……quote my father.
Lost, By a Head. How appropriate a song…the whole world was played to the end……
Well if this is all true, consider the Antarctic stories…. Hitler went to retire on all his blood money, while his generals went to Antarctic to continue operations…notice the big pay offs @1:33 ? Catholic church, Red Cross, Peron in Argentine, Netherlands, etc….& what did America get ? project paperclip…….Time tells everything…..cant wait for the final chapter…..When The Meek Inherit the Earth.

I always thought that Hitler had been taken out of Germany just before the Russians got to Berlin. Seems that my thoughts were justified. Great film..

My father who worked for an intelligence agency used to tell me about this back in the 80’s. It is very true

Hitler had several doppelgangers. He escaped to south America in a u boat in 1945.

1:07:21 Even one of the most brutal dictators who foolishly desired such power ends up to be the most loneliest person, and as age dawns on him alongside his long collapsed dream it took a toll on his well-being. I just wanted Adolf to know that his campaign against allied power allowed my country Indonesia to be freed from Dutch and British oppression and looting. The Japanese also helped us gained independence. Adolf, I am so sorry that life unfolded this way for you. The ones to blame are the allied powers, instigate an economic depression in Germany and this angered the German people like Adolf Himself.

I can’t stop watching this over and over thinking I missed something or putting things together,Top Job investigating putting everything together, this is outstanding work,5 stars.

The scene of Hitler sitting down to eat, meat? Hitler was a vegetarian! Plus, he would not be able to pick up a glass of wine with one hand without spilling it. He suffered from Parkinson’s Disease. By 1945, he was being treated for dementia—he would not have lived to an old age as this movie suggests.

Hitler’s party members were quite concerned about Hitler’s apparent relationship with a much younger female relative because the election was being held in Bavaria, a Catholic land. They wanted Hitler to send her somewhere else which Hitler wouldn’t hear of. The first person in the apartment was Hermann Göring, the second person in the apartment was Heinrich Himmler. Hitler was having dinner with party leaders when he was told of Geli’s death. He threw down his fork and said “How can you eat that? It’s like eating flesh!” Hitler never ate meat again. I learned this from a relative of Hermann Göring. I was never told who killed her but it wasn’t suicide.
