I hope to go this isn’t about how horrible the nuclear industry is because it needs more support than hate. It’s hands down one of the safest and most useful ways to get clean energy and it already has the stigma of being horrible as is. Please don’t make it worse.

My parents were building their first home when this happened about five miles away from the plant and they decided to stay, scared to death. Both passed away from cancer at young ages. I’ll be very interested to see what direction this takes!
I lived through it, living in PA, and it was very scary. Especially as a young person seeing it unfold after all the cold war, anti-nuclear fallout training we went through as little kids.
I was three and lived 10 miles from the plant in Hummelstown. I still remember the taste in the air. This memory is burned into my brain like it was yesterday.

I wonder if I’ll see my father. He was the project manager for TMI 2 for Burns and Roe during its construction. He was building the power plant at the Hanford reservation in eastern Washington in ’79 when TMI 2 melted. The next day, he and his assistant chief engineer were on the island with their giant leather-bound blueprints. He slept there for 30 days as he supervised the cool-down. I still have the photo they took with a high-resolution camera from the helicopter flying over the cooling tower on day one. He was a nuclear sub commander before entering the private sector as a nuclear engineer.
