American Option

An American option is an option contract that can be exercised at any time up to and including its expiration date, granting the holder the right to transact the underlying asset at the strike price.

Example: A trader holds an American put option on XYZ stock and may exercise before expiration if the option's intrinsic value exceeds its remaining time value, such as when the stock price drops significantly.
