Callable Bond

A callable bond is a debt security that gives the issuer the right to redeem the bond before its stated maturity at a defined price.

Example: A 7-year corporate bond with a 5% coupon and a 102 call price may be redeemed by the issuer after year 3 if rates drop, returning 102% of par plus final coupons to that date.
