Carry

Carry is the return from holding a fixed-income asset that comes from the income (coupon) and any roll-down along the yield curve, excluding price changes caused by shifts in interest rates.

Example: An investor may analyze carry as part of a bond's total return by considering the coupon income and any roll-down as time passes along an upward-sloping yield curve, assuming no unexpected rate movements.
