Currency Swap

A currency swap is a derivative contract in which two parties exchange principal amounts and interest payments in different currencies over a defined period, typically with an initial and final exchange of notional amounts.

Example: A U.S.-based company with euro-denominated debt arranges a currency swap to convert euro interest payments into U.S. dollar payments, with notional amounts exchanged at the start and end of the term.
