Downside Capture

Downside capture is a performance metric that shows how a portfolio's returns perform relative to a benchmark during market downturns, and is often reported as the downside capture ratio (DCR).

Example: In a three-year testing period with multiple drawdowns, a portfolio had a downside capture ratio of 85%, indicating its downside losses were smaller than the benchmark's during negative months.
