Municipal Bond

A municipal bond is a debt security issued by a state, city, or other public entity to fund public projects. The interest income on many municipal bonds is exempt from federal income tax, and may be exempt from state and local taxes for residents of the issuing jurisdiction.

Example: A city issues a municipal bond to fund a new library, and an investor reviews the GO designation and tax status before considering an investment.
