Theta Decay

Theta decay is the rate at which an option's time value erodes as the expiration date approaches, with other factors unchanged. It is a measure of time decay in option pricing.

Example: For a one-month at-the-money option, theta decay may reduce the option's time value by a few cents per day, all else equal, illustrating how the option's price can decline simply as time passes.
