Swap-Based ETF
A swap-based ETF is an exchange-traded fund that uses a total return swap with a counterparty to replicate index returns instead of physically owning the index constituents.
Example: A hypothetical swap-based ETF tracks a broad equity index by entering into a total return swap with a bank; the fund posts collateral and receives the index's total return from the counterparty, minus financing costs.
