This poor child, it’s sad to show how even after the was rescued, just shows how the system is set up to fail a child.

The first scene of the little baby in the chair broke me .. so innocent. Everyone who abuses children should be tortured in the worst way. This made me hug my kids right . I’d kill for my kids .

They portrayed this mother as a victim rather than a being a huge part of the problem. This little girl portraying Katie is absolutely phenomenal!!! My heart just kept breaking for her and then she tugged on my heart strings!

When the quarantine happened in 2020’ my heart went out to the children, that were back home in abuse and neglect, when school was there only refuge, you never know

I don’t understand how parents can hurt their children.I cried for pain of this little girl…Great movie, thank you.

The first scene as well as the scene where her father was shouting at her really got to me, poor child didn’t deserve any of this, just to think she could’ve been normal had all this not happened is heartbreaking, poor baby 💔

Every child put in a foster home should be checked on every month. Some people should not have children. Evil

I’ve seen some of Genie’s first footages, not only couldn’t she talk, she couldn’t even fully stretch her back in order to walk properly, she just hopped around. They damaged her twice, first her parents and then the researchers. Children deserve all the love and care and respect in the world.

When and if the abuser gets caught , they do not feel bad for the harm they have caused . I gave my mother my life. My first job , she took my checks from me , that was it , she decided that i would live and care for her , that i would take all the blame for her nasty behavior and bad parenting. She was a monster. I knew her hate was deep when she ran at me with a knife , screaming . At 12 years old she said find a man to take care of you ,she destroyed every relationship i had. Mothers that hurt their children are demons.

I thought I was abused as a kid. Watching this movie made me feel so grateful for my life and my childhood.

I love how the mother tried to point fingers about how the things they did to try and help Katie, like she didn’t just sit back and watch the abuse of her daughter. This films makes me so angry but also makes me want to take Katie in and just love her. 💜💜

Her mother had the nerve to say Katy has too many problems. Really? You sat there and watched her father abuse her. Growl at her, starve her, hit her with a big stick and u did nothing. So many mothers watch their boyfriend’s or husband’s kill their kids. She made me so mad. That child didn’t deserve that. He took the cowards way out and she still got to see Katy. What a poor and unfair justice system we have.

What a sad ,sad, story! Someone truly loved that child and she was forbidden to see her!!! Child protective services sucks!!! The child’s best interest is never considered!!!!

As a social worker this story has always intrigued me. This movie is based on a real girl named Genie. You may be able to find the video about her still on YouTube if you search for “wild child” or “feral children”. This movie paints the main character in a sympathetic light, but everyone involved with Genie from the beginning failed her, everyone from the moment she was born failed her. Of course we know much more now then we did back then about child development, speech development and how the brain grows and learns, thank goodness! Genie had been abused in more than one foster home and/or group home. Her life never really improved. It is tragic.

I’ve been researching this on and off since high school and just rewatched this after reading the 1992 book Genie: A scientific tragedy. This was a very real researched and true to the story movie. Names were changed for legal reasons, but even phrases “ Katie” said were taken from “ Sandra’s “ work.

The only person who truly, loved Katie, was forbidden to see her. My heart hurts for her. She never knew the reason why Sandra, couldn’t see her any longer. I can’t even imagine what she thought.

A story of dreadful physical and emotional abuse. Mind numbing. Actress Tarra Steele played the role of Katie very well. It must have been an exhausting part to play.

I found it very interesting that the mother had no idea Katie’s “peculiar” walk was the result of so many years of not being allowed to walk. I remember when “Genie” was in the news. Any way you look at it, this human being was failed on every level. I am so very sad for her in every way possible.
